Hobby Lobby Challenge

So, I'm, a little late to the party...

But i'm sure y'all have seen others participate in the Hobby Lobby challenge.  Basically it's a trend among teens and young adults where they go into the floral section of the craft store and take pictures. But the aim is to successfully compose your subject and props (the floral arrangements) to where it looks like you've taken the photos in a field.

Last week, my sister Shenell and I went to Hobby Lobby with that very goal in mind. (I put a few of the final shots in the Lifestyle gallery.)

One reason why I really wanted to participate in this challenge is because Hobby Lobby is one of my favorite stores. When I lived in the South and visited my folks in Tuscaloosa, AL., my grandmother and I made frequent trips.  Rarely did we spend less than 45 minutes just browsing around.  Either I walked out with a new coloring book, picture frame or anything else.

New To This, True To This

So this is my first photography blog. It seems fitting that I include how I actually got started...

I became interested in photography the moment I learned who Vivian Maier was.  I watched an amazing documentary about her on Netflix and marveled at her use of the Rolleiflex camera.  Over the course of her career, she used a series of different SLRs, but the end products remained the same- amazing photos.  She is also why street photography is my favorite type of photography.  (I'm naturally a reserved, introverted kind of person, but I've learned that one has to be comfortable around strangers if they're going to be a street photographer.) Anyway, I bought my first camera, which was a trusty point-n-shoot and then after some time, I upgraded to a dslr.

Diving head first into photography is easily one of the best things I've ever done.  What started as a hobby has quickly morphed into something that I wish I could do 24/7!
